Sexual Assault

Sexual assault is any unwanted or forced sexual act perpetrated against another person. It can include inappropriate or forced touching, kissing, penetration, or oral sex, and it often causes deep and lasting emotional, psychological, and physical trauma.

Each year, it is estimated that hundreds of thousands of women experience sexual violence. Certain locations—such as parking lots, parking garages, public restrooms, apartment complexes, hotels, bars, taverns, and nightclubs—are often the sites of sexual assault. When a property owner fails to provide adequate security measures they can be held civilly liable for these events.
