Elevator Accidents and Escalator Accidents

Elevator and Escalator Accidents

Elevator and Escalator accidents are not uncommon. There are about 20 deaths a year from elevator accidents and countless injuries from elevator and escalator accidents. Most often, the floor of the elevator fails to level with the floor of the lobby, causing people to trip and fall. In other instances, the elevator’s malfunction causes it to plunge to the ground. Escalators often stop suddenly, causing people to be thrown off balance. Additionally, feet have been known to get caught in escalators causing them to become severed.

Manufacturers may be held liable for defective elevators and escalators. Service and Maintenance Companies may be held liable if they don’t do their normal monthly maintenance. Building owners and management can also be liable if codes are not kept up to date and service contracts are not enforced.
