Expungement

The process by which a record of arrest is destroyed or sealed is called an expungement. Many employers require criminal background checks an arrest record may prevent you from being hired.

An expungement may be available after expiration of time, or if the arrested person is not convicted, or if the arrest is unlawful, or if the arrested person is of a certain age. If you are accepted into the ARD program, you may also have your record expunged after successful completion of the program. An expungement does not occur automatically, however. You must take action to have your arrest record expunged.
